EYFS and KS1 published 2017 data

KS2 maths analysis -

Please bring with you completed KS2 2017 papers 1, 2 and 3 for an BA, A and AA child from your school so we can focus on key questions and analyse how local children attempted them. 

We will then consider the implications for current Y6 children.

Vulnerable children

Who are they and how are they being supported?

Please bring your school’s 2017 KS1 maths, reading and writing data with you.

These sessions will focus on developing teachers’ understanding of and confidence with Mastery. The curriculum areas will be selected by the group in the first session. The sessions will look at:

  • How to teach the Big Ideas and concepts by breaking them down into small steps

  • How to use the CPA/bar model approach to deepen understanding

  • Strategies for developing mastery within the classroom

  • Strategies for developing talk for maths and reasoning within the classroom

  • The importance of high quality questioning

  • Formative assessment and how to utilise it within lessons

Later in the year, they will also be look at lesson studies (how to improve/perfect a lesson) and will develop a network of online resources, which will be created and shared by the group.

Primary Maths: Bar modelling and
progression

Target audience: Teachers/TAs

Content:

This session will look at:

  • Using CPA (concrete, pictorial abstract) in the classroom

  • The importance of visual maths for understanding and progression

  • Planning strategies and activities for the bar model

  • Problem solving using bar modelling

  •  Coverage all four operations and proportional reasoning

The session will be highly interactive, which will give participants the opportunity to explore maths using this powerful mathematical technique.
