FFT Aspire

Target Audience:

This full day course is ideal for senior leaders, Assessment Co-ordinators, responsibility holders and teachers in primary schools.

 

Content:

Working with the top experts, you will explore FFT Aspire in depth and gain a thorough knowledge of your school’s performance data. The course will also cover Education Datalab’s latest national research, accountability changes and explore how FFT statistics can inform your work with robust and reliable evidence.

Key course components and outcomes:

• Understand and examine FFT dashboards in greater depth including their implementation in school

• Interpret performance data to review provision for vulnerable groups

• Analyse your Disadvantage Pupils’ attainment and progress gaps

• Understand the statistical models used in FFT Aspire

• Consider best practice in setting pupil targets to maximise performance

• Analyse your future potential performance using Aspire benchmark estimates

• Use the new Student Explorer to facilitate staff development in improving intervention and provision for individual pupils

• Understand how FFT Aspire can be used in conjunction with ASP by other staff across your school

• Apply the national research being carried out by FFT and Education DataLab to school practice

New to statutory assessment at Y2

 

Target audience: Y2 teachers new to end of KS1 assessment since 2016

Course leader: Alison Bailey, Pathfinder consultant trainer

NB. The advertised content of this day will change to reflect any changes to the KS1 statutory assessment process made by the Standards and Testing Agency in 2017-18.

Content:

This day course will cover all aspects of statutory assessment at Y2, including:

  • An overview of statutory responsibilities and key dates

  • The 2017 requirements for teacher assessment of reading, writing, mathematics and science (if published)

  • An introduction to the statutory tests for reading, mathematics and grammar, punctuation and spelling

  • Ways to structure the year to ensure that pupils are prepared for the tests and evidence can be gathered for teacher assessment within a coherent, engaging curriculum.

A second day (19.3.18) will build on this introductory session and explore in more detail teacher assessment and key teaching approaches to address gaps in children’s knowledge and understanding.

  • Assessment and moderation of teacher assessment of reading, writing, mathematics and science against the 2018 frameworks.

  • If tests continue as part of statutory assessment at KS1 in 2018, preparing children for these in reading and mathematics.

  • Ways to structure the remainder of the year to ensure that pupils are prepared for the tests (if appropriate) and evidence can be gathered for teacher assessment within a coherent, engaging curriculum.

Delegates should bring with them:

  • copies of the 2018 statutory assessment      requirements and exemplification (as available)

  • the evidence underpinning their teacher      assessments for one child in each subject area

Preparing for the Phonics Screening Check

  • prepare teachers to administer the statutory phonics screening check in Y1 or Y2

  • support teachers in preparing children for the check and in analysing the outcomes.

This half day session gives Y2 teachers and subject leaders responsible for assuring accuracy of school assessments the opportunity to moderate together their assessment judgements of their pupils' writing attainment.  The course leader will provide guidance on standardisation and support moderation.

Teachers should bring with them:

  • all the evidence underpinning their teacher assessment for writing for pupils whose assessments they wish to moderate

  • copies of the 2017 statutory assessment requirements and exemplification (as available)
