Numicon and the EYFS

Target Audience:

Maths leaders, Teachers, HLTS/TA

Course content:

A day of numicon, exploring current approaches to utilise in the Early Years.

  • Appreciate the essential building blocks that underpin the key mathematical ideas
  • Explore the benefits of using Numicon with all children
  • Experience how the Numicon approach supports the EYFS curriculum
  • Explore the range of teaching support materials and tools essential to the Numicon approach 

The day is intended to be practical, but also to convey the pedagogy of the Numicon approach and to cover early mathematics subject knowledge.

Mathematical Strategy and Challenge with Alan Easterbrook- session 4

Target audience:

Maths coordinators, KS2 teaching staff, KS3 teachers, KS3 teaching staff

Content:

Developing mathematical thinking for primary and beyond

This is the fourth in a series of 6 twilight session. The series  builds on the successful Level 6 Primary Mathematics Network that was run for upper KS2 primary teachers by the City of York. Each session covers one or two topics, considers potential misconceptions and explores ways of teaching that encourage deeper understanding. Generic teaching strategies that require pupils to think mathematically are introduced systematically across the series of sessions; teachers have then used these successfully across a range of other topics.

Sessions 2-6 will be hosted in primary school settings

Maths Network Meeting

Target audience:

Maths coordinators, Primary teachers

Content:

Each hour meeting will cover any relevant statutory updates and/or government initiatives.

There will also be sharing of resources and concepts that can be used back in your school setting for staff INSET.

The hour session is jam packed with useful information, while also enabling some collaboration and sharing with colleagues.
