Developing manageable methods of assessment for Primary Languages throughout KS 2

What does progression look like and how to effectively assess languages in primary schools

 

Target audience:

Primary MfL Coordinators

 

Trainer Lead : Carolyn Pinckney

Aims: To improve arrangements for assessing, recording and reporting pupil progress in PL in your school, ensuring continuity and progression leads to effective transition to KS 3.

 

Outcomes: Pupil friendly assessment becomes part of everyday teaching and learning. Progress is effectively evidenced and reported not only raising achievement in PL but also raising the profile of PL in your school, creating secondary ready MFL learners.

 

Content: This session will be designed for current Primary Language coordinators to further develop their understanding of how assessment in MFL can empower pupils and be flexible, motivating and informative without creating extra an extra workload.

 

About Carolyn: Carolyn taught languages in KS3 to KS 5 for fifteen years in Cheshire and Greater Manchester then in KS1 and KS2 for the last 12 years. Alongside teaching she co-ordinated the 5 year long York Primary Foreign Language Assistant Project and now leads and contributes to CPD in Primary Languages

Primary Language Hub

Audience:

Language leaders and any teaching staff with an interest in primary languages

Lead:

Experienced language teacher, Carolyn Pinckney, will host each hub.

York’s primary languages hub will offer a co-ordinated approach to:

  • National updates which affect our language teaching

  • Joint Practice Development in Primary and Secondary language teaching

  • Sharing of ideas and resources

  • Networking and regular CPD
