Assessing and teaching writing at greater depth- Year 6

Lead: Alison Bailey

This session will support:

  1. greater accuracy in assessment of pupils writing 'at greater depth'
  2. provision to support more able pupils in securing higher standards of writing in Y6.

Following further clarification from STA and this year's new training for statutory moderators, this session offers Y6 teachers and those responsible for literacy standards in primary schools clarification on the key markers distinguishing writing 'at greater depth' from writing 'at the expected standard' when judged against the 2017 Interim Framework for Assessment.

Guidance will also be given on the types of writing tasks, activities and contexts for learning that support more able writers in reaching these standards.

Please bring with you work from children you would currently assess as writing 'at greater depth', or who are working towards that standard.
