Preparing for statutory assessment at Year 6

Target audience:

Y6 teachers

Content:

This day course will cover all aspects of statutory assessment at Y6, including a particular focus on:

  • Preparation for the statutory tests for reading, mathematics and grammar, punctuation and spelling as well as the new times tables test – preparing pupils to perform to their abilities and staff involved in administration. 

  • Assessment and moderation of teacher assessment of reading, writing, mathematics and science against the 2017 frameworks.

  • Ways to structure the remainder of the year to ensure that pupils are prepared for the tests and evidence can be gathered for teacher assessment within a coherent, engaging curriculum.

Delegates should bring with them:

  • copies of the 2017 statutory assessment      requirements and exemplification (as available)

  • the evidence underpinning their teacher      assessments for one child in each subject area

NOTES:

 Moderation of reading assessments at Y2

Target audience: Y2 teachers and primary English subject leaders

This session gives Y2 teachers and subject leaders responsible for assuring accuracy of school assessments the opportunity to:

  • consider appropriate evidence to underpin statutory reading assessments

  • clarify the key indicators for each standard

  • moderate together their assessment judgements of their pupils' writing attainment. 

 The course leader will provide guidance on standardisation and support moderation.

Teachers should bring with them:

  • all the evidence underpinning their teacher assessment for reading for pupils whose assessments they wish to moderate

  • copies of the 2017 statutory assessment requirements and exemplification (as available)

Preparing for the phonics screening check

Target audience: Y1 and Y2 teachers

This morning session will prepare teachers to administer the statutory phonics screening check in Y1 or Y2.  It will also support teachers in preparing children for the check and in analysing the outcomes.
