Emotional Literacy Support Assistants
Lead: Claire Elsdon
Target Audience: TAs and pastoral staff
The primary aim of the training course is to develop the skills and knowledge of Teaching Assistants and pastoral staff in order to enhance the range of interventions provided in schools for children and young people presenting with social, emotional and mental health needs at Band 1 and beyond of the CYC SEN Banding Thresholds. The training sessions cover evidence-based early intervention strategies, e.g. Circle of Friends and Therapeutic Stories in addition to sessions on Understanding and Managing Anger, Solution-focused approaches, and more psychological material around Self-esteem, Autism, Bereavement and Attachment and Trauma.
The course content has been revised and extended to include new sessions on Anxiety and Nurturing Classrooms plus some input on programme planning. The training programme is strongly based on ‘what works’ and has been evaluated very positively by colleagues who have already undertaken the programme.
